Community Education Support Officer
Lumwana Mine, Solwezi, Zambia.
Reporting to: Community Development Coordinator Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Community Education Support Officer.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Community Development Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring educational partnerships are in place to facilitate support towards promotion of education in the local communities. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Promote In service Programs for Schools and other related groups in the local area
  • Assist in arranging courses, programs and meetings to further the educational objectives of Barrick Lumwana and local community development plan
  • Remain conversant with new developments in Education, Museums, and heritage.
  • Collaborate with Ministry of Education and other Education service Providers to maintain the quality of Education standards and performance in the local area.
  • Implement the Barrick Lumwana Education Policy and programme for the benefit of the local communities.
  • Plan, develop and provide educational services in the form of talks, seminars, courses, meetings, demonstrations, outreach and other activities.
  • Develop, prepare and manage educational resources, including information, education and communication materials.
  • Assist in providing educational advice in the development and preparation of educational displays, exhibitions, publications, and interactive learning developments.
  • Organize educational tours and visits for local learning institutions and communities.
  • Participate in programs for the Training and development of staff.
  • Coordinate and monitor all scholarship programmes promoted by Barrick and its partners

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Community Education and training.
  • Training in Social Work and Public Health will be added advantage
  • Good understanding of local customs and practice.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good computer skills in MS Office Suite with the ability to use integrated management systems
  • Confident communicator with senior management, legal entities and external stakeholders
  • Valid Driver’s License
